We are excited to announce that Cure Cancer With AI now supports the powerful IBM MAMMAL model through our free public API! MAMMAL, which stands for "Molecular Aligned Multi-Modal Architecture and Language," is a cutting-edge biomedical foundation model developed by IBM Research. This innovative model is designed to facilitate advancements in cancer and drug-discovery research by providing insights across multiple biological modalities, including proteins, small molecules, and gene/omics data.

What is MAMMAL?

MAMMAL represents a significant leap in our ability to analyze complex biological data. By integrating various types of data into a unified framework, MAMMAL enables researchers to gain insights into the interactions between proteins, the effects of small molecules, and the underlying gene expressions that drive biological processes. This multi-modal approach is crucial because it reflects the interconnected nature of biological systems, allowing for more accurate and holistic predictions that are pivotal in the context of cancer research and drug discovery.

Research Behind MAMMAL

The capabilities of MAMMAL are detailed in the research paper published in npj Drug Discovery (Nature), titled MAMMAL — Molecular Aligned Multi-Modal Architecture and Language for biomedical discovery. This study showcases that MAMMAL has been trained on approximately 2 billion biological samples, covering a wide array of data types. The model was evaluated on 11 diverse drug-discovery tasks and achieved new state-of-the-art results on 9 of them, while performing comparably on the remaining tasks. This impressive performance demonstrates MAMMAL's ability to provide valuable predictions that can enhance our understanding of drug interactions and potential therapeutic targets.

MAMMAL in the Cure Cancer With AI API

At Cure Cancer With AI, we are thrilled to offer MAMMAL's powerful predictive capabilities through three dedicated API endpoints. Each endpoint serves a unique purpose in the realm of drug discovery and biomedical research:

  • Protein–Protein Interaction Prediction (PPI):

    Endpoint: /api/v1/mammal/ppi
This endpoint allows users to input two amino-acid sequences (designated as protein_a and protein_b). MAMMAL then predicts whether these proteins interact, returning a binding-affinity class label of "1" for interacting or "0" for non-interacting.

  • Drug–Target Interaction Prediction (DTI):

    Endpoint: /api/v1/mammal/dti
For this endpoint, you need to provide a target protein's amino-acid sequence (referred to as target_seq) and a drug represented in SMILES notation (known as drug_seq). MAMMAL predicts the strength of the binding interaction by returning a predicted pKd value, with higher values indicating stronger predicted binding affinity.

  • Clinical Toxicity Prediction (ClinTox):

    Endpoint: /api/v1/mammal/clintox
Users can input a compound in SMILES notation (smiles) to receive a toxicity prediction. MAMMAL will return a prediction of "1" for toxic/likely to fail trials and "0" for not toxic, along with a raw score for further analysis.

These MAMMAL capabilities are now available for free on curecancerwithai.com. Each API call may take up to approximately 60 seconds to process due to the computational intensity of the model. The free tier allows up to 100 requests per hour per API key, making it accessible for researchers and developers alike.
